Vera Mindy Chokalingam, better known by her stage name Mindy Kaling, was born on June 24, 1979, in the United States. She is an actor, comedian, producer, and screenwriter.
Her role as Kelly Kapoor on the NBC sitcom The Office (2005–2013), on which she also worked as a writer, executive producer, and director, was where she first came to public attention. She was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series for her work on the show.
